In New Jersey we have a law governing the “three strikes” offender which requires, upon certain convictions, either life imprisonment without parole or extended term for certain repeat violent offenders. N.J.S.A. 2C:43-7.1. If a person has a history of two or more criminal convictions on prior occasions and commits certain enumerated serious offenses, they are subject to the three strikes law in New Jersey. Needless to say, this is a very serious potential consequence and anyone charged under this section must contact an experienced defense attorney immediately to determine their rights and any available defenses.
